The Falls

The Falls
What an afternoon! I am still in awe, this afternoon was not about a score, but rather all about an experience, and what an experience I had. The first picture I have is of the signature Falls found on the 18th hole; I thought it was of good enough quality to make it a wallpaper in my desktop, but you can be the judge of that. We teed off at about 1:20pm, and after a long drive in the cart (they do not let you walk this course), I managed to par the first, bogie the second and par the third and fourth. Just what was all the hype about the Falls seems easy enough.

Way down there
Tee Off

The next pic is of a green where you are almost as far up over it than you are away from it, you can see the group ahead putting below (about 120 yards out and then 120 down). I soon realized and was humbled by this type of terrain.

Next is a picture is of an awesome par 5 that you tee off and it is about 300 yards down. SO you do the math, the ball goes far! The next one is of the view from where it lands back up to the tee.

Way Up
I can't post them all ( I took 50 pictures but this is a taste of The Falls . I would suggest to anyone to golf here if for anything the experience. I mean the elevation changes and the wide open space that seems to be carved from the mountainside is just awe inspiring to say the least.

Older and Wiser

Funny I don't feel any older or wiser. To celebrate my birthday, since I didn't do much yesterday, I am going golfing at The Falls . Will have pics up later today.

SPAMED to Death

I am growing tired of all this SPAM. I run Eudora for an email client, just because I refuse to use a Microsoft client if any reason. Actually I like the product, but lately I am getting an enormous amount of Porn, Viagra, and regular shit mail. It is not just my uniserve account either any more. The filtering in Eudora can keep up with only about half of these.

Does anyone know of a good SPAM filter I can run on windows XP Pro?

The Comforts of the Internet

Maybe it is just me, but sometimes I like to sit back and take in all that is available at my fingertips. For instance, I now have an absolute awesome wallpaper on my desktop which I got from reading Iambe's site this morning of hurricane Isabel (incidentally it is just a luxury to be able to get there lately since my FC woes were addressed by Silv).

It might be just a small thing, but to me it ranks right up there with:

  • Receiving software rebate cheques in the mail
  • Downloading music you own and haven’t heard for over a decade
  • Getting new hardware
  • Getting really old hardware
  • Nerf Guns
  • Chocolate
  • Compiling an hours work without errors

But then again I could be just an odd sort that enjoys a good morning caffeine rush and reading his friends sites, and a bit of a wallpaper freak (see Digital Blasphemy link).

A Great Golf Season Winding Down?

Last night was the windup for the club's men’s nights, which ended up being another round of golf in rather wet conditions. I really enjoyed myself this year attending these Thursday Night events, which we a heck of a deal; $15 for members for a round of golf and a steak dinner. I ended up with over $300 in winnings over the year putting me in the top 5 on the money list and in the top ten in the points overall. The thing to point out here is that I am not one of the best golfers out there, but the way it was designed everyone no matter the handicap could win, very kewl.

Oh well, I guess the golf season is winding down a bit, however the club is open year round and many people golf on boxing day there, providing there is no snow. Despite this, I am preparing for Fishing season which is just starting on the Vedder/ Chilliwack River. I plan to get out and have Tyler hook into his first Salmon; I will have pictures of the event of course so stay tuned.

Good Dentist

Spent the first 90 minutes of my day (other than the getting up having breakfast and showering), in the chair of my new dentist's getting a Root Canal. Let’s just say I have had worse. I switched to this new place in Chilliwack and what an improvement. Instead of freezing my entire face and tongue like at visits to previous dentists, this guy pushed the needle past the nerve to the tongue and just focused on the tooth. I didn't know they could do that, but what a difference, I can still talk, swallow and such (no drool out the side of the mouth).

I have extreme Dental Anxiety, revolving mainly around the freezing of the lower teeth because it froze my tongue and back of throat. With this new procedure (new to me anyway), it was a much more relaxing experience. I can feel about 80% of my tongue so that is good. The depressing thing is this is only the first of Many visits that I will be making over the next year, root canals, crowns, etc.. Lots of fun!

Link'D

I took Bear's lead and picked myself up a DLink DI-704P router for only $19.99 (after the mail in rebate of course). I haven’t removed my FireCard as of yet though, even though I have had a few issues of late with it. I now have a few boxes wired for the net (nothing new for most of you out there, you might even say "only a few boxes").

Nothing much happening here, other than coding, I was going to go golfing this morning but it was pissing out when I got up. I still have a shitload of work to do anyway, even when the code is done will be doing docs. Oh well such is life, gotta take the bad with the good, the sour with the sweet, the... I better get back at it.

I'm Golfing in the Rain...

Golf Tourney
It is one of the driest summers ever and the day of the Rob Bahnman Memorial Golf Tournament at the club , and it rains. Well it was rain or shine so there was staying home and whining about it. I was paired up with these fine golfers (Myself, Don, Earl and Harold from left to right), and we managed to post a 58 (-5 under par). With the conditions as they were and the talent pool (speaking for myself of course) this was an awesome round (Texas Scramble format). We needed one more putt or two to be into the trophies but we had a great round and I got to play with some great guys!

The rain actually stopped for the back nine and the sun came out for the presentation. For those of you that don't know, Cultus puts on this event yearly since the passing of the founder of the Club Rob Bahnman from cancer. All the proceeds go the Cancer Foundation, and they raise a lot of money every year. It is great event and for a great cause. I am proud to be a part of it. This year Shaaron worked as a volunteer and I donated some of my winnings from Men's Night back for the prize table. Giving of yourself to others can be a very satisfying thing, especially when it is for such a good cause. The bonus here is that it was also a great time!

Tired of Waiting

Does anyone have a detailed fix that I can perform myself to take care of the GG Blade bug that prevents me from accessing Iambe . This is usually part of my daily routine:

  • Fire up Box
  • Check Mail
  • Check Blogs for recent entries
  • Check UseNet for new music

Since the bug is low on NetMaster’s priorities I thought maybe someone out there knows of how I can modify something more permanent than daily modifying the spoof file for the firewall and restarting. So if anyone has this knowledge and the time to share it feel free, not that logging into the device and reconfiguring the firewall and restarting it has become REAL annoying or anything, just a PITA.

Continued Bad Harware Mojo

My bad hardware mojo continues to plague me. I mentioned the other day( Working Golfing Upgrading), that I upgraded a friends machine, well I decided to trade drives as mentioned, well the next day when I went to try the 8GB in my machine it wouldn't take a format. It gets to 47% and just sits there, for hours.

Well to make a long story short, I manages to get it working with a quick format only, there obviously is some bad sectors on the drive. I now have 2 - 12BG drives in my system, and the friend I upgraded has a 20BG and a 40BG drive. We are all happy, but I lost a few days die to dicking around with hardware. Bad Hardware Mojo Continues

Had to Share This One

Thanks for all the input on the site, I think I am going to leave it as is (other than a few small colour tweaks) , for the time being. It is not that hard after all to change a few things and end up with a totally different looking site.

I was doing a bit of surfing this morning while I ate breaky, and just had to share this pic I call Bar-b-queue Barbeque Boxen . I have seen a few cooked boxes in my line of work, but never a box used to cook.

Also an update on the scanner ( Bspudd was asking the other day), you know, the one I had that silly contest for? Well turns out Bear's scanner went on the blink so he ended up taking it for legitimate use. I will have to dig up some other peice of hardware to run over with the Bronco then. 8)

More Site Changes

Made a few more changes, if you have time to comment please do. I think it is getting there, it was too grey, maybe too blue now. Change the fonts and increased the size. Otherwise ti is back to work, this is how I spent my lunch :P

Hooked on a Monster

I don't usually watch too much TV, my take on it is that it destroys brain cells and I have already done enough of that in my life, but that's another entire entry. I have been hooked on Monster Garage of late, a really kewl show on Discovery that follows the theme of Junkyard Wars , only there is only one team and one man in charge. Jesse James (apparently a direct descendant of the real Jesse James), a well known custom bike fabricator and design guru, puts together these teams to do wild things to normal vehicles. There was the Porsche 914 driving range golf ball retriever/ cannon, or the stretch limo/fire truck, and who can forget the Ford Explorer garbage truck. Tonight's episode was the shark cage pontoon house boat with the nitrous oxide boost and mega sound system.

If you have a spare hour in your busy day, it is well worth the watch. Check out the link above for show times.

Caffeine or BUST

Is it just me or does Caffeine and coding go together? I mean, it just seems that the more I get of it the more I get of it; so much so that I yearn for other sources that contain it. I am not a real coffee drinker, now before you go doing the "What, than how can you call yourself a Caffeine junkie thing", there is other sources. Warm liquids just don't fly with me(other than Cappuccino, French Vanilla Mochas, and I forget what they are called but it is another gourmet coffee served at the college), at least not in the summer, so I have been forced to seek other sources. I drink quite a bit of Coca-Cola, which is a great is a great source of Caffeine.

Recently I bought this Iced Mocha Java syrup that you mix with milk, YUK, just not the same cold (coming form an anti-warm-liquid person it surprised me). So I am on a quest for Caffeine, and its alternative sources. Either I find one, or I will have to hope that a Starbucks moves close and quick! IT is after all supposed to get cooler as we move into fall, so my tolerance for warm liquids will increase.

Made Some Changes

I am experimenting with a little CSS with MT. Let me know what you think, and even more importantly if anything is hooped because of it. I was bored and figured it would be fun, so I thought what the heck.

Does it look better, worse, not viewable in some browsers, or is a three column look kind of screwy? Fill me in, thanks.

Working, golfing, upgrading

Had a so-so round of golf this afternoon at the club, managed to win a skin for a bird on the 5th, which was nice. It was a nice walk, and a chance to get out. It has been pretty busy the last few days.

Upgrading a friends computer for them; basically I had a 20GB drive in my test unit and really all I will be using it for is testing my software, so I took it out and swapped it for their 8GB drive. Also they have a Korean exchange student living with them this year so I installed support for Korean in XP for them so Jim can write home to his Mom. Tomorrow they are getting cable so I am going over to set up a firewall for them and a few other things. This is better than going over to reload their system after a virus attack or worse. I just can’t say now to good friends, they needed some fixin.

I Stand Corrected

Last month I knocked the SEP breakfast for being a waste of time, and little to no use to me. I stand corrected, and I take back most of what I said. I found this month’s to be more organized and you might say more formal. It was in a separate room for one, which made it seem that way. I made some contacts that may or may not work out for me in the future, one being a person that goes to businesses and organizes their inventory and such. The point here is I had the French toast, which was a treat compared to what I usually have, and I met more people. So it was a success. Plus I got to chat with Silverstr who I met up with after the breaky. So I officially "stand corrected" for the second time (for those like Shaaron who think I should admit it more :P ).

Not Par for the Course

Bruce, Bear, and I all headed out for an early round on Sunday. I will have to say it was not exactly par for the course in more ways than one. Let's just say it was a shity round, but one of the most fun ones I have had this year. The atmosphere was what made it so, with joke after joke coming one after another. Most of which was too bent or nasty to share with others (lets just say most of the subject matter wouldn't be brought up at the family dinner table).

I think I shot an 85 or something like that, I was hitting the ball like a wild man, but it was a lot of fun. Thank you Bruce and Barry, it is rounds like that which make golf fun!

Sunday Bear's Dad Roy joined us to make up what is the usual foursome that I play in. (I joined as a member of this group a few years ago). I had a most excellent round, and although not everyone else did this is golf.

I will say that I am damn glad to be playing the game with such good people!

Hot Hot Hot

Took the usual Saturday Morning golf round off to finish what was started Friday evening and help Bear's move. The entire family got involved this time, as Shaaron showed up with some boxes and the kids. I got to meet Bear's sister and brother in-law (Damned if I can remember both of their names, I am bad with this). So everything went into high gear as we basically cleaned house. Everything went into the van, truck, another van, or the trunks of our cars.

Arriving at the new place with all the stuff we went to work (I must say I had a little less enthusiasm) at getting everything into the new place. It was getting pretty hot out there; at one point Roy and I had lifted something into one of the bedrooms and found it to be real cool there, I suggested we just sit down and hide for awhile.

It was all finished by about 2:00pm. Or should I say the work has just begun? When I left the new dwelling was a sea of boxes. Bear and Lin's real work has just begun, UNPACKING

Posted by Muckhead at 09:42 AM | Comments (0)

Started to Move

Not unlike any of the rest of us Bear had a change of dwelling in his immediate future, so I jumped in to help Friday evening. I was blown away at how fast it took us, but I cannot take the credit for tenacity. Roy, Bear's Dad, set the pace. This man is over 70 and he was setting the pace of a 20 year old. We filled the rental moving van in a record 1 1/2 hours, with just the three of us in this heat.

We were done so early in the evening that I arrived home to a locked house (Note to self: take a set of keys to your dwelling with you next time). So I had to wait until the family arrived home to bask in the air conditioned comfort of home.
