I took my son Tyler to the Chief Dan George Middle School's Annual Chess Tournament on Saturday. He was chosen to be a class representative, as he is not a bad player. We got decked out in his school colours (of which many other kids and parents forgot to wear), and showed up ready to kick some chess-butt.
He won 2 games, 2 went to stalemate and lost one, which was a pretty good effort I think. There were some pretty good players there, including the National Champion for grades 1-2. I was surprised at how many kids were there and how tough the competition was. Any way we had fun, and that is what counts.
Weather kept me away from the golf course this weekend; I hope to get out this week.
If I had to describe that hockey game I would simply say " WOW ".
Talk about wide open , flat out ever shift !
Now that's Hockey ! !
Well I had a great long weekend, even though the weather only semi-cooperated. I managed to get caught up on some work during the lull in the weather Saturday, as well as some reading.
Finally got out golfing with Bear on Sunday morning, and although it was not our best scoring round I had a lot of fun getting out and playing a round with my good friend.
Yesterday, Shaaron and I played a round with two of our best friends and had a great time. It was Tad's first time out this year so he had his hands full just hitting the ball, but Trace was hot, as she came about 8 inches away from getting her first hole in one on the 8th hole.
Shaaron and I had a few great shots, mostly Shaaron; she holed about a 45 ft putt and made some incredible tee shots. I however can only remember a few shots of my own, I was busy relaxing and having fun with people that mean a lot to me. This is something that I enjoy more than any golf game.
There was one minor mishap that got my goat; on the 5th hole I hit my shot (a slice) into the 4th fairway. I walked over to get it, and I hit it there often, I know where they usually land. I witnessed an older guy looking at a ball on the ground, once, twice, and then shrugging his shoulders and hitting it. Then I could not find my ball... hmmmmm
I let it go by the next hole and continued on, had fun, end of story :)
Well I have reached the 40 lb mark for weight loss, and I have returned and met with Terrina (the YMCA trainer), and received my new workout routine. It is BRUTAL, I was so sore last night.
Any way I went there this morning for my cardio workout (on the days in between the cardio-weights), and she gave me the figures on what I have attained. She measures you everywhere, and uses a thing that pinches you to measure body fat, and then gives you the results. According to her figures I have accomplished this in 6 weeks:
Of course I had lost almost 20 pounds when I started the working out, so it all adds up to where I am at. Terrina was ecstatic as I am now officially her most successful client over the first 6 weeks.
A visit to the doctor last week indicated a HDL cholesterol of 2.5 with an over all of 3.4 which is about the same as before but my HA1C (diabetes check) is the best it's been in 5 years at 6.4.
So I am getting somewhere but still have 60 + lbs to go....
Or, Watch Listen and Learn, Vancouver Canucks!
The Calgary Flames are an example of what it takes to win a Stanley Cup, Heart, Determination and Hunger.
Plain and simple, they really want it, and are not accepting anything but success.
Call it a lesson in life, if you really want something, and it is possible, you eventually will succeed.
I myself am counting on that to hold true!
Well not really much new here, same shit different pile. I am working on a total restructuring of my website and marketing plan, after being enlightened by some recent resources.
Played men's Night last week and plan to attend this week as well, so far I haven't played that well but I haven't even played 10 rounds yet this year, last year I had about 30 in by now.
With the weather changing I should be getting out more. I have slowed a bit on the weight loss, hanging on at a few pounds away from the 40 lb. mark. I go back to work with the trainer on Thursday, where she will measure and weigh me and put me on the next, more advanced workout.
YES ! !
Talk about total Domination!
I am sooo hoping that Calgary makes it past San Jose and goes to the finals; it will be so good to see a Canadian team in the Stanley Cup.
On a side note: I am disgusted that Todd Bertuzzi was overlooked by Team Canada for the upcoming World Cup next year !
Well after reaching the 35lb mark on the weight loss we all decided it was time for a cheat. I firmly believe that cheating is a must for any diet that I have been on, but this isn't really a diet that I am on. Atkins has become a way of life, a healthier way of eating, and a totally healthier way to tackle diabetes.
So, we made it an event; you see I also believe that if you cheat with something at the corner store you might be inclined to cheat often. We planned out a few different scenarios:
Well with most on the list you can see that they could be easily repeated, so we went to Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Also our choice was based on what we were actually craving at the time and that was sweets. I went a whole week through Easter without CHOCOLATE, now for me that's willpower.
So, it is over, the cheat was on and it has passed. I had WAY more energy today working out, and I was not tired afterwards. I think my body needed it. I gained nothing in weight and although it will take a few days to get back into Ketosis, it was worth it.
Next Cheat July 1st weekend!
With only one Canadian team left in the hunt for Lord Stanley's Cup, it was extra especially sweet to see us capture the World Championship for the second straight season yesterday! Team Canada beat Peter Forsberg and the Swedish elite 5-3 in Prague yesterday in classic Canadian fashion!
Well Done Team Canada ! ! !
Incidentally, Matt Cooke and Brendan Morrison played a very big role in this year’s tournament. I think these guys are the true Vancouver Canucks talent.
Made some small changes (just in case nobody noticed), I added two sections of recent DVD's watched, and current or recent reading material.
No biggie just thought I'd mention it, go ahead return to what you were doing. And if you missed it, do check out the link I put up yesterday.
Here is a link that a good friend "Russell” sent me that I have been meaning to share with those that have a sense of humour. Happy Tree Friends are, well, a little disturbing, but funny just the same. Thanks Russell, I too am partial to eye candy, it kind of makes you cringe though!
I can be what some call a "scorekeeper", so when it comes to hitting the scale I most likely take it too seriously. I was told by Terrina (the trainer at the Cheam Centre), to stay away from the scale because it will fluctuate a lot over the first 6 weeks. I guess I am a sucker for punishment, because I tend to speculate, then it is all over, I go weigh myself.
With that all said I have gained again, and yet yesterday I actually fit into jeans that I haven’t been able to wear for over 3 years. Go Figure, it is just hard to base it all on inches instead of the scale. I guess it is because I have a goal weight in mind and it is still 70 + pounds away.
To put it into perspective, I have lost over 5 inches off my waist, and I am still on the diet, got to stay positive.
It is not surprising that the Canucks did not renew Brian Burkes contract. I mean I have been saying for years that they need to make some big moves and Brian was in charge of those moves. He will be missed though, as he does know a lot about hockey. There are already rumors that the CEO of Orca Bay( the Canucks Parent Company) , had it in for him, so who knows if his leash was pulled a little to tight for him to make such moves.
I think they really need to look at getting rid of Naslund, and give back the "C” to its rightful owner, Trevor Linden. This would be an instant improvement in team moral, after all you are only as good as your leader, and when your leader publicly announces that he doesn’t think the team “wasn’t good enough to go very far in the playoffs”, I mean doesn’t that say it all ?.
I think this is only a start of some big shake ups in the core of this team, at least I hope !
Well thought I'd bring ya'll up to speed on the start of the golfing season. Played my first Men's Night at The Club last Wednesday, nothing too spectacular, I couldn't even stick around for the steak dinner as I had some stuff to take care of at home. I did however pull of one incredible shot (and for those who have played with me I have tried this with little success in the past), with my 3 wood and hit the green. I thought for sure I would get KP, but apparently there is a guy playing the men's nights this year that can put it on the green from 364 yards.
My take on that: I only hit the green on 9 maybe 3 or 4 times a year, and hardly ever on Men's Night. If there is going to be approved ringers out regularly I might not be showing up as religiously as I did last year.
Picked up a new Driver on the weekend, I always wanted a Ping Driver to go with my 3 wood, even better I always wanted to only pay $150 or less for it, there was one at GolfTown on the weekend so I grabbed it. I haven't tried it on the course yet, but it is the same series (i/3) so I think I should do well with it, plus it is a 9 Degree so I should get more distance if I connect( that is a NON-slice hit).
