I can be what some call a "scorekeeper", so when it comes to hitting the scale I most likely take it too seriously. I was told by Terrina (the trainer at the Cheam Centre), to stay away from the scale because it will fluctuate a lot over the first 6 weeks. I guess I am a sucker for punishment, because I tend to speculate, then it is all over, I go weigh myself.
With that all said I have gained again, and yet yesterday I actually fit into jeans that I haven’t been able to wear for over 3 years. Go Figure, it is just hard to base it all on inches instead of the scale. I guess it is because I have a goal weight in mind and it is still 70 + pounds away.
To put it into perspective, I have lost over 5 inches off my waist, and I am still on the diet, got to stay positive.
Posted by Muckhead at May 5, 2004 10:44 AMWow, wish I could do that... still need to adjust my diet. Congrats!

Don't measure by weight... measure by inches. When I lost my first 50 pounds it fluxuated so much, but I continued to see inches peel off.
When I hit the 75 pound mark, the fluxuations weren't as severe, but I also noticed I didn't drop by a lot of inches. Guess its getting at some of the pockets of fat that are not being directly measured.
Don't fret about the scale. And start listening to those who know what they are talking about... instead of punishing yourself ;-)

The most important measure to go by is the percentage of body fat to the rest of your body. Weight is a non-issue.
Posted by: Darren at May 5, 2004 01:48 PMRight on, dude!
I just heard from Cuvarack that you're doing the Atkins thing too, eh? Great to hear! It's been working out quite well for me too.
So, anyway, good luck and have fun!
The feeling of accomplishment you have in pulling out old clothes and trying them on (and having them actually fit!!!) is truly hard to describe. But... as the 80's band Loverboy puts it, I'm...
Lovin' every minute of it!
