Objective

My objective is to continue on the never-ending path of learning in information technology, with focus on software and systems analysis as a member of a development, or maintenance team. I have been a software engineer as a member of Merilus Technologies' JAVA development team for over a year, but see this as just the beginning of my career and I am eager to continue to excel into the future. .

Demonstrated Skills

Software:

Merilus Technologies Inc. – I was hired on January 01, 2001 on completion of my studies at UCFV as a member of their JAVA Development team. During my stay at Merilus I developed my skills as a software engineer while working on Merilus's main Inferno application, which remotely manages their FireCard devices. Work included front-end work connecting the GUI with the back end via JAVA networking technologies. Skills retained from my stay at Merilus include teamwork, dedication and loyalty to a focused project. Work was performed on mainly Linux systems and designed for cross platform application with use of GVIM and VI editors.

The University College of the Fraser Valley – During my studies at UCFV I became familiar with a broad spectrum of Information Systems and Technology, including:
  • System Analysis and Design
  • Database Theory, Design and Implementation
  • Application Programming in C++, Pascal, Assembler, and specializing in JAVA
  • Networking and Communication

Systems:

The District of Chilliwack MIS Department – Contracted as a Novell Certified NetWare Engineer in the winter of 1994, I integrated a Pentium based HP LM5/60Netserver (with a RAID 5 Array) into their backbone, and upgraded the present system from NetWare 3.11, to NetWare 4.01. I worked closely with their MIS team in the installation and upgrade, which also involved the client software, and a total redesigning of the backup system, with consideration to both hardware and software. The system was monitored by myself for over one year after installation for stability in all areas of its functionality.

Service and Support:

Abacus II Business Systems – This is the establishment that allowed my entry into this fascinating industry of computers. In the last part of the summer of 1990, I donated my services to Abacus II to see if computers were something of my interest and to see if I was of interest to them. I was quick to pick up the basics of a service technician and excelled to Service Manager by 1992. I remained as Service Manager, until the winter of 1994, repairing, and manufacturing home and small business computers.

Pacific Office N' Things – Initially contract as a consultant for their service department to assess the present operation procedures, and improve on them with emphasis on achieving more outside service. I soon took the position of Service Manager, and with a focus on teamwork contributed to the maintenance of a number of small business, and Novell LANs. The LISA Software company worked closely with our service staff in deploying systems to many lumber wholesale manufacturers in the Lower Mainland.

Teamwork and Leadership:

Spindaleer Wood Products – Initially hired in the lathe section of the plant August 1984, I worked primarily with hydraulic automated wood turning lathes. The position of Foreman was offered to me days after I had finished my 30-day probation, and I made Supervisor at six months. I was taken under the wing of the owner of Spindaleer Wood Products, Tom Turner, and introduced to management techniques. We developed a new list of ethics, and plant policies, which consisted of systems for employee evaluation and a new interview panel, as well as departmental improvement for quality control with good employee dedication and moral. I excelled to Assistant Plant Manager and successfully completed my Industrial First Aid Certification, developing new policies to be followed for safety within the plant. I left this establishment in the summer of 1989, with the valuable knowledge of teamwork, from the aspect of the respect for all who worked alongside me.
